LaVar Steel’s Expressions of Alzheimer’s Disease

During the last 18 months of LaVar Steel’s life, he was drawing while accompanying his wife Marian to work, meetings, and other activities. It was an unplanned project intended to keep LaVar busy. Inadvertently, a briefcase filled with art supplies provided him with the means of creating a firsthand account of a disease that typically robs its victims of their ability to communicate.
Everything that LaVar expressed was contrary to prevailing assumptions regarding dementia. Overall, this book creates a powerful message that those who lose memories and abilities are NOT “GONE” even though they may not communicate or function as they once did.
Additionally, this book has been of particular interest to artists as LaVar displays some of his beautiful designs throughout the series.
